About this case
Whitmore University prides itself on tradition, prestige, and secrets buried so deep that they've become the foundation the ivy-covered walls stand upon. Dr. Margaret Chen, the first woman to chair the History Department, was about to shake those foundations to rubble. Her research into a 1952 campus incident revealed that a student's death, ruled accidental drowning, was actually murder covered up by the university president, three professors, and a family whose name adorns half the buildings on campus. The night before she was to publish her findings, Dr. Chen was found dead in the rare manuscripts room, a room that can only be unlocked from the inside. Her research has vanished. The suspects form a web of academic intrigue: Dean Wilson facing a plagiarism scandal of his own, Professor Hayes whose tenure review Chen was blocking, and the university's largest donor whose grandfather was implicated in the 1952 cover-up. In academia, publish or perish isn't just a saying; for Dr. Chen, it was a death sentence.
Setting: University Campus, 1978
