About this case
Thornwood Manor, Christmas Eve, 1938. Textile magnate Reginald Thornwood has gathered the family for dinner, and he has an announcement. A recent medical test has confirmed what he's long suspected: his eldest son Edward is not his biological child but the son of his late business partner. Reginald has already changed his will. At 8:15 PM, before the announcement can be made, he raises his champagne glass — and collapses. The glass was poisoned with digitalis. Every guest was at the table when the champagne was poured from a single bottle, and only Reginald's glass was tainted. Someone at that table knew what the announcement would mean, and they knew their only window was the toast. Eight family members, one dead patriarch, and a secret forty years in the making. The butler saw exactly who touched the glass.
Setting: English Country Estate, 1938
